Tampa’s Bay News 9 Wins 2006 Broadcast Engineering Excellence Award With OmniBus Automation

DENVER — April 25, 2006 — OmniBus Systems, the award-winning provider of comprehensive automation and content management solutions to the broadcast industry, today announced that Bay News 9, owned by Bright House Networks, a 24-hour news channel serving Tampa, Fla., and surrounding areas has received the 2006 Broadcast Engineering Excellence Award in the category of station automation.

“Broadcast Engineering readers representing the breadth of the broadcast industry select winners in each award category, so it is very rewarding to see the automation solution at Bay News 9 receive this honor,” said Mike Oldham, CEO of OmniBus Systems. “We extend our congratulations to Bay News 9 and Ascent Media for the successful completion of a remarkable joint broadcast facility.”

Installed at the network’s new 23,000-square-foot St. Petersburg facility, a single OmniBus Systems’ Columbus automation system enables easy, shared access to media in standardized formats for streamlined production and playout of Bay News 9, as well as the network’s weather, on-demand, and Spanish-language channels.

The OmniBus system serves as the facility’s central interface for controlling devices, getting feedback, and relaying playout messages, and OmniBus Desktop Control (ODC) allows Bay News 9 staff to search and browse archived material, create graphics, put production elements for studio events into the script, and control a variety of other functions. The ODC user interface is installed at all edit stations in the newsroom, at all workstations within the facility, and at each of the network’s remote bureaus.

The new broadcast operations for Bay News 9, Bay News 9 Travel Weather Now, Tampa Bay on Demand, and Bay News 9 En Español were designed, integrated, and installed by Ascent Media. The facility went live June 27, 2005, without interruption to on-air programming.
