New stv Transmission Facility at Pacific Quay Goes Live With OmniBus Colossus 3.0
LONDON — Sept. 8, 2006— OmniBus Systems today announced that stv, which holds the ITV franchise for Central and North Scotland, has selected OmniBus Colossus 3.0 to provide a transmission control solution for the broadcaster's four regional channels, now broadcast from stv's brand new, state-of-the-art playout facility in Glasgow's Pacific Quay. The Colossus content management and playout system will control playout of material sources from tape, as well as live ingest, file ingest, and the overall transmission automation system.
Colossus 3.0 provides new functionality that allows stv to recognize master break and split break markers, in order for the ITV network feed to be rejoined at the appropriate place.
"As part of the move from central Glasgow to our new facilities, we empowered stv employees to design the facilities they required to create both a technically and aesthetically pleasing work environment," said Gary Welsh, project manager at SMG, the U.K.-based media business that owns stv. "After an extensive evaluation and tender process to ensure all our criteria were met, we chose Colossus 3.0 for its ability to deal with split breaks and integrate well with our existing and future broadcast systems."
stv has integrated its Colossus 3.0 with an AVID News facility, Omneon server systems, a FlipFactory clip delivery and transcoding system, and an ITV "Genersys" scheduling system and ITV interactive services. The Genersys business management system provides clip lists, playout schedules, and wipe lists to Colossus, which in turn manages playout operations from multiple sources, both live and prerecorded feeds.
In addition to delivery of its transmission software, OmniBus Systems provided stv with custom software that will enable the broadcaster to support interactive services.
