OmniBus iTX NEWS Powers Daytime News Summaries

Sophisticated Graphics With Live Updating Allow Broadcasters to Set New Standards in Data-Driven Programming

DENVER — April 2, 2008 — OmniBus Systems, the award-winning provider of comprehensive broadcast automation and content management solutions, today announced that BBC News has ordered OmniBus iTX NEWS and will use it to broadcast daytime news summaries from Q2 2008.

BBC News is using the software-based iTX playout and automation system for the two-minute national news summaries broadcast throughout the day between major news programs. The iTX system will accept files from the network’s Quantel servers and Jupiter asset management system, and allows the summaries to be broadcast by a two-person producer-presenter team.

"The iTX NEWS system offers several significant advantages in the busy and complex environment at BBC News," said Ian Fletcher, CTO, OmniBus Systems. "The integration within the iTX software suite of all the functions of a playout and automation chain allows such forward-thinking organizations to create innovative workflows and find new ways of delivering their services."

Developed in consultation with some of the major names in news broadcasting, iTX NEWS provides an extremely speedy, flexible and responsive workflow for today’s rapidly evolving, multi-format news environments. iTX NEWS offers the unique ability to take edits to air without prior rendering, with graphics, audio and video effects, stills and captions all generated in real time. Endowed with outstanding multi-format capabilities, iTX NEWS allows users to easily ingest and edit together SD and HD sources, and combine them in the same playlist with non-broadcast material such as security footage and user-generated content, with real-time format conversion and rendering of effects. The iTX architecture streamlines the output of multiple versions of the same playlist for SD, HD, Internet streaming, mobile TV and other platforms, with automatic transcoding and distribution of content.

iTX NEWS includes comprehensive media acquisition, asset tracking and logging tools, powerful browse capabilities and rapid Windows Media encoding for news streaming. Content can be acquired from a wide variety of sources — AVID, Final Cut Pro, live ingest, digital news delivery services and viewer-generated sources — and any mixture of formats can be combined in the same playlist. iTX NEWS includes an optional advanced integrated graphics package, and can control a wide range of external graphics devices.
