OmniBus Colossus Marches on Through 1,000 Channels

DENVER — August 26, 2008 — OmniBus Systems, the award-winning provider of comprehensive broadcast automation and content management solutions, today announced a milestone for its market-leading Colossus automation system. Coinciding with the release of Colossus v3.5 software, the installed base has recently passed 1,000 channels, operated by leading broadcasters, cable networks and media operations centers in the U.S. as well as Europe, the Middle East, the Asia Pacific and Africa and delivering content to more than 40 countries.

Colossus v3.5 is shipping now and continues the evolution of the Colossus platform, adding new features and enhancements that broaden the range of supported third-party devices and increase ergonomic access to powerful system functions. OmniBus G3 technology allows Colossus users to create task-specific interfaces for individual tasks and workflows, greatly simplifying training and on-air operation.

New Colossus Viewer features include: enhancements to the timeline display such as vertical scrolling to simplify the monitoring of multiple channels at a glance, and user-configurable switching between preset groups of channels and tracks; global search-and-replace functionality on single items or multiple instances of the same item through the current schedule; comprehensive customizable keyboard shortcuts; and hard panel control of key operations such as Take Next with support for panels from OmniBus and third-party providers including Quartz, JL Cooper and Contour Design.

Version 3.5 is underpinned by its ability to control a wide range of devices including the most recent video servers from Omneon, Quantel, Harris and Thompson GVG; graphics devices from Pixel Power, Leitch and Harris; and feature-rich support of master-control switchers including Pro-Bel TX 520, Miranda Presmaster, GVG Maestro and Snell & Wilcox Kahuna. Audio/video lead/lag transitions are available for mixers that support this functionality.

Recent Colossus installations include Ascent Media's London playout facility, where the system handles a complex operation involving multi-channel multilingual broadcasting to Europe; Crawford Communications in Atlanta, where the facility was expanded to add HD capability with fully redundant primary and backup channels; and Chellomedia in Amsterdam, where Colossus is used to broadcast SD and HD channels including National Geographic TV across Europe.

"Colossus has been a highly successful platform for so many broadcasters needing to expand their capacity for sophisticated and efficient control of multiple channels," said Mike Oldham, OmniBus CEO. "Passing a thousand installed channels is a great achievement, and we salute our ever-growing band of customers and the leading role they continue to play in shaping broadcasting of the future."

OmniBus Colossus is the market-leading multi-channel automation system, providing a robust and scalable solution to broadcasters across the globe. A full-featured automated transmission product, Colossus incorporates schedule management, event building and transitions, timeline monitoring, live-event management and cache management.
