Kanal 75 First Past the Post With OmniBus iTX

DENVER — April 1, 2009 — OmniBus Systems today announced that Swedish broadcast service provider Kanal 75 has installed OmniBus iTX as part of an infrastructure upgrade program in preparation for transition to HD broadcasting. Kanal 75's iTX-powered services went live ahead of schedule in March 2009, delivering highly detailed national coverage of the Swedish horse racing season to betting locations and other outlets.

Configured as a twin channel system with 2:1 redundancy, the iTX system entirely replaces Kanal 75's previous Columbus-based automation and playout system, while retaining the broadcaster's fully-automated proprietary graphics system, Radix. Although Kanal 75 currently broadcasts in SD, the iTX installation is fully HD capable and ready for the planned switchover with only a simple user-implemented configuration change.

"iTX presented the ideal combination of benefits for Kanal 75," said Robert Svensson, assistant technical director. "We have been able to achieve a very swift transition to operations with the new system, phasing out our entire existing transmission chain and putting everything in place for an easy switch to HD when the time comes. iTX's integration with our own specialized graphics system is one of the strengths of the installation, allowing us to deliver complex and detailed on-screen information with a highly automated and streamlined workflow."

Kanal 75's Radix graphics system outputs XML files describing all of the graphics, including the markers (continue points). The XML output is automatically converted to an Excel® or similar format so that the graphics can be combined with the parent clip data to create a complete schedule, and the final schedule is then converted into an .OSC for import to iTX. iTX then drives the Radix graphics system using the iTX XML adaptor.

"Kanal 75's new infrastructure demonstrates how flexible iTX really is and how using an open architecture can enable simple integration with existing systems and data workflows," said Laura Kirkland, channel sales manager for OmniBus Systems. "iTX's all-encompassing automation, graphics and playout facilities, combined with this capacity to work in an IT-based data environment, make it a powerful tool for broadcasters supplying information-intensive programming."

OmniBus iTX is the next-generation solution that makes the conventional broadcast automation, master control and playout chain obsolete. Combining and exceeding all the functions of a conventional transmission chain in a single, integrated suite of software applications, iTX is flexible, open and feature-rich, and offers a significantly more configurable and responsive end-to-end solution for a wide range of operating environments. With market-beating support for SD and HD, and exceptional ability to integrate with third party systems, iTX delivers the most powerful solution available while significantly reducing the investment required to launch and operate high-quality channels in broadcast, IPTV, mobile TV, disaster recovery and business continuity applications.
