A Million IPTV Subscribers Served by OmniBus iTX
Broadcast-Quality IT-Integrated IPTV System Shipping Now
DENVER — April 20, 2009 — OmniBus Systems, the award-winning provider of comprehensive broadcast automation, content management and workflow solutions, is now shipping iTX for IPTV. Based on the ground-breaking iTX automation, master control and playout system, iTX for IPTV offers a range of features, including ad insertion and IT integration, that makes it the most appropriate platform for IPTV providers migrating to a more flexible and powerful system and for would-be IPTV entrants deterred by the cost and complexity of traditional broadcast equipment.
iTX powers some of the industry's most innovative and advanced broadcasting services and is also used by one of the world's largest IPTV operators. In response to demand from operators in the sector, iTX for IPTV incorporates features which provide the capabilities essential for a successful IPTV revenue model. These include the ability to provide comprehensive data exchange with sales and traffic systems; powerful tools for handling regional opt-outs and ad insertion; and support for all major image and audio formats with built-in real time encoding and decoding.
"Most existing or aspiring IPTV providers are from the telco space, with a great deal of in-house expertise in IT-based systems," said Mike Oldham, CEO, OmniBus Systems. "They want to deliver broadcast-quality production standards, but are usually reluctant to construct a facility based on conventional broadcast hardware because it is costly, unfamiliar and does not integrate well with their existing systems. By contrast, the iTX platform provides and exceeds the capabilities of conventional systems, and being IT-based, fits readily into a data-driven environment and is familiar for operators and easy for IT engineers to maintain."
A cost-effective, robust and highly scalable platform, iTX for IPTV allows operators to meet the twin goals of agility in responding to market opportunities while offering outstanding return on investment. iTX has been deployed in large multichannel operations with over 700 channels installed and running around the world.
iTX for IPTV provides all the capabilities needed to produce a highly crafted transmission stream, including video/audio transitions, logo insertions, voice-overs and two-dimensional DVE moves for squeeze-and-tease effects. It creates extra revenue opportunities by enabling the insertion of advertising based on schedule time, cue tones, GPIs, SCTE 104 DPI or manual triggering. Format-independent and bit-rate-agnostic, iTX allows broadcasters to mix both media formats and resolutions in the same schedule. Compressed video files such as MPEG2, MPEG4 (H.264), DV25/50 and Windows Media — as well as wrapped formats such as MXF and QuickTime — are all supported in their native form and decoded by iTX for IPTV during transmission. Broadcast HD, SD and lower bit rates can be mixed within a single schedule and are automatically up or down converted by iTX for IPTV. Live sources can be scheduled, mixed and branded along with recorded content.
