OmniBus Colossus Powers ABN Andhra Jyothy, India's Newest 24-Hour News Channel
Colossus Provides Ingest and Playout for News Programs Targeted to Telugu-Speaking Viewers Throughout India
DENVER — Oct. 27, 2009 — OmniBus Systems, the award-winning provider of comprehensive broadcast automation, content management and workflow solutions, today announced that its industry-leading Colossus automation system has been chosen to power ABN Andhra Jyothy, a new 24-hour television news channel serving Telugu-speaking viewers throughout India. ABN Andhra Jyothy joins an impressive roster of leading broadcasters, cable networks and media centers in more than 40 countries that have based their newsroom automation on Colossus, whose installed base recently surpassed 1,000 channels.
Launched by Andhra Jyothy, India's leading Telugu-language newspaper, ABN Andhra Jyothy is based in Hyderabad and serves a large Telugu speaking region of India stretching east to the Bay of Bengal and south to Tamil Nadu. The single-channel Colossus system controls mixers, graphics devices and VTRs as well as an Omneon Spectrum media server, and handles all master control room ingest and playout. The automation solution was sourced and installed by Indian reseller Shaf Broadcast.
"Since ABN Andhra Jyothy is a greenfield project, we had an exciting opportunity to build our master control room from the ground up using only state-of-the-art equipment," said Vemuri Radhakrishna, managing director, ABN. "Colossus is an integral part of our strategy to offer top-quality news programming to our viewers. The system's world-class functionality, highly configurable workflows and flexible user environment will enable us to adapt our new facility as our requirements evolve."
OmniBus Colossus is a market-leading, multi-channel automation system, providing a robust and scalable solution to broadcasters across the globe. A full-featured automated transmission product, Colossus incorporates schedule management, event building and transitions, timeline monitoring, live-event management and cache management. The latest version of Colossus adds features and enhancements that broaden the range of supported third-part devices and increase ergonomic access to powerful system functions.
"Whether broadcasters are faced with expanding capacity for an existing facility or, as in ABN Andhra Jyothy's case, building a new facility from scratch, Colossus is the ideal platform for sophisticated and efficient automation and control," said Mike Oldham, CEO of OmniBus. "We're pleased that Colossus is playing such an integral role in Andhra Jyothy's efforts to reach an important group of viewers in India with up-to-the-minute news programming."
