Scripps Networks Expands OmniBus Systems Colossus for New Channel Launches
DENVER— May 12, 2010 — OmniBus Systems, the award-winning provider of comprehensive broadcast automation, content management and workflow solutions, today announced that leading home, food, travel and entertainment programmer Scripps Networks (Knoxville, Tenn.) has upgraded and expanded its OmniBus Colossus system for the launch of new HD and SD channel services. The new channels will augment Scripps' existing complement of SD channels, delivered to audiences across the U.S., and went live in April.
Scripps Networks' channel launches serve the growing interest in lifestyle content among U.S. consumers. Cooking Channel, which launches May 31, will reach approximately 55 million households with 24/7 coverage including VOD and an accompanying website, and exemplifies Scripps' success in targeting and serving well-defined and enthusiastic audiences.
Scripps Networks' Colossus infrastructure was expanded by New Jersey-based Azzurro Systems Integration to accommodate the new SD and HD channels with the addition of new server and device controllers, but the existing Colossus server and caching and transfer infrastructure framework required only minimal changes to scale up for the extra traffic.
"One of the key benefits of the Colossus infrastructure is that it's very readily scalable, and so market-led changes such as the addition of the new SD and HD channels at Scripps are very easy to achieve quickly," said Tim Mendoza, executive vice president, Americas, OmniBus Systems.
"We are nimble at Scripps Networks and like to move fast when new market conditions and opportunities arise," said John Ajamie, senior vice president, broadcast operations and engineering at Scripps Networks. "Going live with these new channels in April with the minimum of additional engineering to our automation infrastructure was a great help in meeting our business objectives."
OmniBus Colossus is the market-leading multi-channel automation system, providing a robust and scalable solution to broadcasters across the globe. This full-featured automated transmission product incorporates schedule management, event building and transitions, timeline monitoring, live-event management and cache management.
