Operational Considerations
The sharing of content and operating data between your primary and backup transmission sites is at the heart of any BCP solution. In other words, an effective BCP should provide all of the following:

Content File Compatibility and Replication – The encoded files of video and other content that are ingested and stored at your primary site should be usable by the backup site without re-ingest or transcoding.

Compatibility of Operating Data – Transmission schedules and content metadata from your traffic and content management systems should be accepted to both primary and backup transmission systems without re-entry or reformatting. Likewise, both primary and backup systems should produce compatible logs of “as-run” information for your program management and billing systems.

Evergreen or Not – A major decision in BCP is the currency of content that will be maintained at the backup site. Duplicating the primary site transmission product for all channels and time periods means replicating all content, including new content that is received at the primary site each day. For many broadcasters, a practical alternative that can reduce transfer and storage costs and still maintain the viewers’ quality of experience is to replace some scheduled programming with “evergreen” content. Your backup transmission system should make this process automatic and easy to manage.

OmniBus iTX provides unique solutions to these essential operational requirements for BCP.
